Canyons begin

Well, the wire mesh canyon frames are in place and the 2 layers of plaster cloth have been applied (60ft of it so far).   I  'painted' on a thin watery layer of pre-mixed drywall compound to smooth out the plaster cloth crevices and let it dry for a good 48hrs.  Avoiding the old school paper ball and cardboard method to form the hills, this method dries much faster as it gets air from both sides of the frame and will not get any musty like smell over the years to come.

I used Wallacks Burnt Umber, some black and Raw Sienna to get the base color coat.  It is now ready for the next step of highlights and eventually ground cover.

The track looks messy, but weathering the rails and ballast will be covering those sins - eventually.   You can't model railroad if you are not prepared to get messy at times :)

In the top of this picture you can see the 3 basic stages I used: wire frame, plaster cloth, paint.
